Villa Avalon II’s open-sided living and dining pavilion is formed from the heart of a historic teakwood joglo imported from Java and its ornately carved ceiling is a treat to behold.  The pavilion provides easy access to the private walled garden, pool and sun terrace furnished with comfortable loungers.  Two ensuite double bedrooms open onto a shared veranda.  Meals can be prepared by the Villa Avalon chef, or whipped up in the well-equipped kitchenette.  The villa is just three minutes’ walk from the ocean and 15 minutes from Potato Head in Seminyak.

Location

The three Avalon villas are on a sleepy residential street with pedestrian access to the endless sands and blue waves of Kayu Putih Beach.  You’ll fall in love with La Laguna, the gypsy-themed restaurant known for its photogenic bridge and sunset view, and the pleasant ebb and flow of joggers and dog walkers on the beachfront throughout the day.  Popular destinations such as Finn’s Beach Club and Echo Beach are easily reached by walking along the sands, or by hire car or taxi.  A grocery store and ATMs are also within convenient waking distance (300m).  This area is the unofficial border between Seminyak and Canggu – both “it” places in Bali with amazing spas, shops, dining and dancing.

About Canggu

Canggu has become the collective name for a number of villages (including Berawa, Tegal Gundul, Tiyingtukul, Pererenan, Nelayan and Babakan), which, until very recently, could still be described as a sleepy coastal locale. It's now one of Bali's coolest districts.

Here, amongst the rice fields which extend all the way down to the beach, you will not only find some of the most luxurious private residences on the island, but also a great selection of eclectic restaurants, cafes, bakeries, boutiques and beach bars – especially along Jalan Batu Bolong, which runs right down to the beach. Popular spots include Finns Beach Club, Old Mans, La Laguna, The Lawn and Ji @ Bale Sutra.

Canggu is also an area that most surfers will know about, with reef swells that are larger than those you will find further south in Kuta and Seminyak. Swimming isn’t advisable however as the rips can be dangerous, but there are plenty of other things to do from horseback riding to cooking classes. Finns Recreation Club (for which many holiday villas in the area include guest membership) offers social and leisure amenities, including Splash waterpark, Bounce trampoline centre, Strike bowling, a state-of-the art gym, a 25m swimming pool and a tennis and squash centre.

Along the coast to the north of Canggu is Pura Tanah Lot; a sea temple perched high on a craggy wave-lashed rock and probably the most photographed sight in Bali. Sophisticated Seminyak, a few kilometres south of Canggu, lays claim to the highest concentration of independent fine-dining restaurants on the island, including Sarong, La Lucciola and Ku Dé Ta, together with a wide choice of chic cocktail bars, exciting nightclubs, lavish spas and elegant boutiques.

About Bali

Bali is Indonesia’s most popular tourist location and is considered one of Asia's premier tropical island destinations. Steeped in history and renowned for its artistic way of life, Bali is a peaceful contrast to some of the more frantic destinations Asia has to offer.

The inner peace and creative talents of the Balinese has attracted artists the world over fascinated by local dancers, silversmiths, wood carvers, potters and painters that seem to pervade throughout the island. The abundant verdant fields and surrounding sea have long supplied Bali with an easy surplus of food leaving time for life’s more artistic past times. As a result everything in Bali has a creative and religious element centred around the local Banjar (residents association) – little, adorned temples are everywhere, doors are covered in intricate carvings, huge kites ward off evil spirits and colourful roadside ceremonies bring traffic to a standstill.

Bali is a popular destination principally from Australia and Asia but also from all over Europe. The island welcomes thousands of visitors each year to a relaxing lifestyle, stunning beaches, world class surf, vibrant villages, and spectacular scenery all with an exquisite tropical climate. Located approximately two hours’ flying time from Singapore the island is serviced by an international airport at Denpasar with direct flights to and from many major cities in Asia, Europe and Australia and many more via Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital.

The island offers an impressive range of leisure and lifestyle amenities including world-class golf courses, wonderful seascapes for surfing, diving and snorkelling as well as luxurious spas, chic boutiques, tropical forests, towering volcanoes and international cuisine.

Hats off to the team at Avalon for delivering an amazing holiday experience for our family.  Thank you!  We were made to feel like VIPs with the most courteous care and would have gladly stayed forever in this fairytale setting by the sea.  We came for a beach experience, but this villa stole our hearts.  Its proximity to the beachfront was what led us to Avalon II, and the location is something special; but the charm of the villa is indescribable.

We’ve rented other vacation homes in Bali, but never opted for a villa with living areas quite so open to the elements.  I’m not the woodsy camping type.  Well, Avalon II’s open-sided living room is gorgeous in every way and suits a Bali holiday just fine.  One relatively small square space combines the modern with the traditional and the fab with the practical.  I was blown away by things like quick-drying patio furniture below a hand-carved wood ceiling and the grand woven basket which is lovely art and holds umbrellas at the ready in case of tropical showers.  The joglo accommodated our needs throughout all phases of each day, the same poolside patio and games room where the kids could drip with pool water also passing as a dining room in the evening complete with antique chandelier.

Initially hesitant about Avalon II’s the size and layout, now I think every two-bedroom villa should be just like this, with an outdoor living room by the swimming pool.  Again, it must be said that also behind the magic ambience and versatility of the villa are the staff who mop up, keep things sparkling and deliver meals like clockwork, which they do so discreetly and effortlessly.  We’re bragging about this trip to everyone we know in hopes they’ll join us for a short break before too long, and perhaps we can all stay in the main villa together for a group holiday.  With or without them, we’ll be back.  Don’t change anything!

Our family of five had a fantastic time staying at Avalon II, Andy and the staff were attentive, helpful, and discreet, and helped guide around our first time in Canggu. The villa itself was excellent, quiet, and a great location for relaxation. The staff were the highlight of our stay, and we would recommend Avalon II

Location: Bali

Perfectly sized for a small family or two couples, Avalon II has a winning combination of traditionally tropical outdoor space and luxurious modern bedroom suites.  This two-bedroom Canggu villa is set within a private walled garden with a seven-metre swimming pool and sunbathing deck.  Amidst bonsais, frangipanis and heritage Indonesian décor, blissful relaxation happens naturally.  The Javanese teakwood joglo with an antique chandelier and ceiling fan doubles as an alfresco living and dining area with seating for six and, at the back, a well-equipped kitchenette (a helpful team of staff is on hand for meal preparation in the estate’s service kitchen whenever desired).  Smooth stepping-stones across the lawn lead to a separate pavilion containing the two bedroom suites.

The bedrooms at Avalon II – one king bedded and one queen-bedded – are modern, air-conditioned havens with hand-carved dark wood furnishings, gorgeous white bedding and Javanese and Balinese decorations.  Each bed has a wooden bench at the foot and view to a flat-screen TV with DVD player.  Vaulted ceilings and mirrors maximise the space beautifully.  The connecting bathrooms are as large as the suites, and just as luxurious too – think marble surfaces, rain showers and baskets of plush white towels.  The cherry on top are exotic orchids atop tables and frangipani flowers, in white and sunset hues, placed on bedside tables and hand towels.  A totally indulgent tropical sanctuary awaits.
